Volleyball at St. Johns River Community College 2006 Season The Lady Vikings volleyball team placed 3rd in their district at the FCCAA State Volleyball Tournament. SJRCC defeated its conference rival, FCCJ, for the first time in Viking history. 2006 FCCAA Honors:
FCCAA All-Conference Teams: 1st Team: Anne Sanchez, Natosha Newman 2nd Team: Jessie Woods, Lynetta Newton Honorable Mention: Lauren DeGrove, Jessica Donovan FCCAA All-Tournament Team: Lynetta Newton SJRCC has been a charter member of the Florida Community College Activities Association, the governing body for intercollegiate competition within the state, since 1965. The college is also a member of the National Junior College Athletic Association and participates in Region VIII of this organization. The 1999 team finished in second place in the Mid-Florida Conference and had the highest winning percentage of any prior team. The 2000 regular season record of 20-9 was the best in school history. The Lady Vikings made it to the FCCAA State Playoff in Kissimmee and were the mid-Florida Conference runner ups. The 2001 team was 20-10 and placed second in the Mid-Florida Conference. This is Scott Conkling's first year as head volleyball coach at SJRCC. Scott is a retired Navy veteran with 22 1/2 years of service. Scott was head volleyball coach at Keystone Heights High School for the last six years where he posted a 120-57 record and lead the team to four district championships, the Elite Eight and the Sweet Sixteen two times each. Prior to coaching at KHS, he was a coach at Orange Park Christian Academy for 12 years, the last four years of which he was also the athletic director. Scott has coached club volleyball for 18 years, including the Blaze Volleyball Club and the Clay County Volleyball Academy. Scott and his wife Michelle have been married for 30 years and have two daughters and five grandchildren.2004. |
