Fast Pitch Softball at St. Johns River Community College
Catch That Viking Spirit!
Last year the Lady Vikings completed their most successful season in Viking
history, finishing 26-28 for the year. Another first for the Lady Vikings last
year was the honor of playing in the FCCAA State Softball Tournament. The
Vikings had a great show at the tourney, throwing a no-hitter against Indian
River Community College. The Lady Vikings are as excited as ever and looking
forward to the 2008 Spring season!
The Lady Vikings will be led by returning sophomores Chelsie Garner, Megan
Harris, Jessica Jordan and Katie Shannon. The Vikings will also see sophomore
leadership from incoming transfers Morgan Hugart, Leigh Anne Kelly, and Lea
Schenck from Eckerd College, Lander University, and Okaloosa Walton College.
New additions to fill out the Lady Viking roster include many athletes from all
around the state of Florida, including Rikki Cotto, Cheyenne Sellers, Angela Di
Leo, Rachael Wilkinson, Falyn Burney, Amy Stanford, Kaitlin Gallamore, Lisa
Ryan, Ronna Sweat, Mallory Kendrick, Jessica Rodriquez, Jessica Fornos, and
Jessica Lee, as well as a few outstanding young athletes from out of state.
Whitney Holland and Sarah Evans will join the team coming from their home in
Virginia, and Jessica Sewell and Christina Pasquini join the squad all the way
from Maryland.
With the largest team ever, and the most talented group of athletes in SJRCC
history, the Lady Vikings have great expectations for the 2008 season. We hope
that you can make plans to attend the games and catch our Lady Vikings in
action!

Lady Vikings Softball History
SJRCC has been a charter member of the Florida Community College
Activities Association, the governing body for intercollegiate competition
within the state, since 1965. The college is also a member of the National
Junior College Athletic Association and participates in Region VIII of this
organization.
SJRCC established women's collegiate softball in the fall of 1985. Slow
pitch softball was the game of choice during the decade of the '80s and into the
mid-'90s.
SJRCC fast pitch softball is aligned with the Mid-Florida Conference.
SJRCC is proud to participate in a Division-One Conference that is considered by
most the toughest community college fast pitch conference in the United States.
Over the two-plus decades of softball at SJRCC, many of the student
athletes have excelled on and off the playing field. Numerous colleges and
universities have found SJRCC players to be scholarship material. SJRCC softball
has helped mold superior academic athletes as well. Seven softball student
athletes have achieved the highest academic honor that can be bestowed by the
National Junior College Athletic Association, Academic All-American. One of
these outstanding players was the valedictorian of SJRCC.
