LADY VIKINGS SOFTBALL HISTORY
SJRCC has been a charter member of the Florida Community College Activities Association, the governing body for
intercollegiate competition within the state, since 1965. The college is also a member of the National Junior College
Athletic Association and participates in Region VIII of this organization.
SJRCC established women's collegiate softball in the fall of 1985. Slow pitch softball was the game of choice
during the decade of the '80s and into the mid-'90s.
SJRCC fast pitch softball is aligned with the Mid-Florida Conference. SJRCC is proud to participate in a
Division-One Conference that is considered by most the toughest community college fast pitch conference in the United
States.
Over the two-plus decades of softball at SJRCC, many of the student athletes have excelled on and off the
playing field. Numerous colleges and universities have found SJRCC players to be scholarship material. SJRCC softball
has helped mold superior academic athletes as well. Seven softball student athletes have achieved the highest academic
honor that can be bestowed by the National Junior College Athletic Association, Academic All-American. One of these
outstanding players was the valedictorian of SJRCC.
