SJRCC student elected vice president of international honor society

ST. AUGUSTINE – Members of St. Johns River Community College’s Alpha Xi Eta chapter of the Phi Theta Kappa honor society recently attended the PTK International Convention held in Dallas, Texas.

The highlight of the convention for members of the St. Augustine chapter was the election of their outgoing president, Rebekah Danielson, to the position of Division II International Vice President.

Five international officers are elected each year by delegates attending the convention. This is the highest position of student leadership in the PTK honor society. As an international vice president, Danielson will be responsible for maintaining a newsletter and correspondence with chapters within her division, making presentations at regional meetings and educational conferences, participating in local chapter activities, and presiding at next year’s convention and honors institute. Danielson will represent over 288 chapters in seven regional organizations: Alabama, Florida/Puerto Rico, Georgia, Kentucky, Mississippi/Louisiana, Tennessee and Texas.

In addition to the invaluable leadership experience gained with her new position, Danielson will also receive travel expenses and a stipend each semester for service-related expenses, a laptop computer, and a $2,000 scholarship upon successful completion of her term in office.

To run for international office, PTK members must have a cumulative 3.5 grade point average and be exclusively enrolled in an associate degree program at a two-year college. Candidates should also demonstrate scholarship, leadership, service and fellowship, which represent the four hallmarks of the PTK organization. For more information, visit www.ptk.org.
