Florida School of the Arts visual arts students prepare for exhibit opening
Fine art and graphic design students will have a chance to show visitors their artistic progress at the Florida School of the Arts Student Exhibition. The gallery show will open with a reception on Thursday, March 26 at 7 p.m. and will run through April 24 in the FloArts main gallery located on the Palatka Campus of St. Johns River Community College. The event is free and open to the public.
A wide variety of artworks will be on display, including mediums involving drawing, painting, photography, and digital and three-dimensional arts. “The diversity of artwork that the students have created for this exhibition will show a high level of education and artistic skill,” said Michael Burban, FloArts fine art instructor and gallery director.
Burban said the show is juried, meaning the works are chosen based on merit and are of the highest quality. “This year’s students are focused and motivated about their artistic studies, which translates into an intelligent and passionate art-making process with quality finished artworks,” he said. “The faculty has the experience and ability to give students the educational tools and practice that they will need to go on to higher education or enter into the art world as fine artists.”
Students exhibiting in this year’s student show include Breanna Aguilar, Jennifer Belk, Layce Boswell, Christian de la Rosa, Willie Deberry II, Brian Dillon, Kimberly Goslin, Gregory Hyzy, Ryan Maynard, Marie Montgomery, Rion Patch, Krystal Sellers, and Shayna Newsome, Kaitlin Weber and Cassandra White.
The fine arts program is intended to train the student artist to fully comprehend, use and manipulate the materials, techniques and procedures of the visual arts through drawing, painting and printmaking. The graphic design program directs students to learn the concepts of publication design, packaging and production techniques for magazine ads, CD cover designs and brand packaging designs.
