Going once...
SJRCC utilizes online auction service

St. Johns River Community College recently selected an online government surplus auction service to manage the advertising and sales of its used inventory and equipment. According to Bob Olson, SJRCC's budget and property specialist, the contract allows the College to comply with state requirements while providing the public an opportunity to purchase equipment at a reasonable price.

"This service not only allows the College to save funds otherwise associated with the transportation and storage of hundreds of items, but allows us to properly sell usable items no longer needed by the College," Olson said. "It's a win-win process that has been a positive experience for us so far." Olson said the funds collected from the auctions will be reintegrated into the budget.

Items ranging from furniture to table saws will be listed periodically on the GovDeals Web site at: www.govdeals.com. Olson said anyone can register to bid on the College items as well as those from 1,700 government agencies nationwide. As a result of a recent renovation, the College will post numerous items on the site in late July and early August.

Olson added that the College has participated in an online auction service for its computer equipment since 2006 with Technology Surplus Depot.
