SJRCC golf classic raises funds to benefit athletic scholarships and facilities.
The St. Johns River Community College athletic department recently hosted its third annual golf classic at the Royal St. Augustine Golf & Country Club. Thanks to the participants and sponsor Beck Automotive Group, the athletic department will continue its recruiting efforts with additional funds for its four athletic programs, said Athletic Director Ross Jones. "The event raised the crucial funds needed to enhance scholarships and facility upgrades - items that are imperative when recruiting that blue chip player," he said.
Fifty-three players participated from surrounding counties.
The team representing Seminole Electric won first place gross. The players were Bobby Payne, John Garrett, Rick Mills and John Grams. First place net went to the team of Donnie Whitehead, Don Frazier and Jessie Parkin.
Second place gross went to the team representing Camerlengo & Brockwell with players Heath Brockwell, Greg Anderson, Dan Mowrey and Terry Shoemaker. Second place net went to the Beck Automotive Group with players Larry Freeman, Matt Buckles, Mike Flanders and Buddy Beasley. Hollis Tinsley and Don Frazier won closest to the pin, and Donnie Whitehead and Dan Mowery won longest drive.
The Athletic Department wishes to thank its 38 hole sponsors for their support.
