SJRCC to host Five Points of Life rally

Twelve cyclists on a 2,000-mile crusade will stop Tuesday on the Palatka Campus to educate community members on the five ways to save lives through blood and organ donations.

The Five Points of Life ride, which kicked off its tour earlier this month in Alabama, will make one of its final stops at the Palatka Campus amphitheater on October 28 at 9:30 a.m. The tour includes cyclists from all professions and communities across the United States and Canada.

The Palatka High School ROTC and Interlachen High School Band will lead the cyclists onto campus where selected riders and special guests will share their personal connections of the five crucial points of life: blood, apheresis, marrow, cord blood and organ/tissue.

The Palatka event is free and open to the public. Guest speakers include local rider and 16-gallon blood donator Richard Brinker, Mayor Karl Flagg, River Breeze Principal Verlene Bennett and incoming SJRCC President Joe Pickens.

The program is not a fundraiser and is coordinated to raise donor awareness by LifeSouth Community Blood Center. For more information on the ride, visit the Web site at: fivepointsoflife.org
