SJRCC honors Educator Preparation Institute graduates


St. Johns River Community College recently recognized 47 students, the largest class thus far, for completing the teacher certification program. SJRCC's Educator Preparation Institute was developed in 2006 to streamline the certification process for non-education bachelor's degree holders. The participants completed the coursework required to earn a Florida Professional Teaching Certificate.

Participants are awarded a Florida Professional Teaching Certificate upon completing the EPI courses, passing the Florida Teacher Certification Exam and submitting the required paperwork to the Florida Department of Education. No other coursework is required, and the program can be completed in less than a year - on campus or online.

The Clay County program completers are Deborah Battle, David Bradley, Gabrielle Brinley, Kristina Carpenter, Consuello Clark, Lindsay Crowther, Kelsea Eckert, Kimberly Folsom, David Gain, Leslie Gilliland, Latrica Gillis, Mary Hannon, Karen Lisle, Mary Michaels, Christie Revis, Dinah Rodillas, Lynda Selby, Lisa Seymour, Julia Sigona, Pamela Skindziel-Reyes, Jennifer Stout, Eleta Sucsy, Ronald VandenOever and Sue Weston.

The St. Johns County program completers are Gina Cirillo, Alberto Crespo, Carol Fugate, Judy Gill, Heather Hart, William Hubler, Natalie Rowan, Luann Reel, Holly Sargent, Ashley Solan, Catherine VanHousen and Morley Zachman.

The Putnam County program completers are Blaine Hall, Kimberly Knowles, Rebecca Russell, Gerald Swayze, Rebecca Thompson and Tammy Tipton.

The Duval County program completers are Diana McMenemy-Deacon, Zachary Eberhard and Jennifer Strickland.

Additional program completers representing other counties are Courtney Fletcher and Douglas Westlake.

In order to participate in the EPI program, applicants must have earned a bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited college or university and possess the disposition suitable for becoming a teacher. The College will hold informational orientations on August 3 at the Palatka campus, August 4 at the Orange Park campus and August 5 at the St. Augustine campus.
