SJRCC announces "Blue-Gold Connection" with Embry-Riddle
St. Johns River Community College, in a partnership with Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, announces a new transfer agreement providing SJRCC students a direct connection to Embry-Riddle's bachelor's degree programs.
Independent from its ongoing efforts to begin offering its first two bachelor's degrees, SJRCC has recently reached an articulation agreement with the Daytona-based university to guarantee students entry into more than 20 degree programs. The Blue-Gold Connection aligns SJRCC's associate in arts degree (transfer degree) with Embry-Riddle's programs.
Susan Day, Embry-Riddle's associate director of transfer admissions, said the partnership will provide personally articulated course guides and Embry-Riddle scholarship opportunities. "It can only be a plus for students to have both schools working toward positive outcomes on their behalf," Day said.
SJRCC President Joe Pickens said students interested in the aviation and aerospace industry will no longer need to apply to multiple colleges and wait for acceptance thanks to the new agreement. "While our students have always been guaranteed admission to one of the 11 colleges in the state, this breakthrough partnership takes the guesswork out of transferring and helps us prepare them for their next step. This agreement will make a bachelor's degree possible for students who may otherwise have missed out due to academic or financial barriers," Pickens said. "Embry-Riddle graduates are among the most sought-after professionals in today's high-tech industries."
Pickens added that the College is optimistic that the agreement is only the first between SJRCC and neighboring universities.
Students are encouraged to inquire early regarding the Blue-Gold Connection program. Students may begin to participate in the program as early as January. The dual admissions program is open to any Florida high school graduate who has completed the full-time undergraduate application process for Embry-Riddle or to any SJRCC student who has earned fewer than 30 credits. The programs include: aeronautical science, air traffic management, applied meteorology, aviation maintenance science, business administration, civil engineering, communication, homeland security and space physics.
Upon completion of an associate in arts degree or 30 college credits listed on the program of study, Blue-Gold students will be eligible for the Embry-Riddle Blue-Gold Achievement Grant of $2,000. The student must also have at least a 2.5 cumulative GPA at the time of matriculation. The Embry-Riddle grant will be renewable each year if the student maintains a 3.0 GPA.
According to Embry-Riddle's Web site, the college is the world's largest, fully accredited university specializing in aviation and aerospace and offers programs in its Colleges of Arts and Sciences, Aviation, Business and Engineering. Embry-Riddle educates more than 30,000 students annually in undergraduate and graduate programs at residential campuses in Prescott, Arizona and Daytona Beach and through the Extended Campus at more than 130 centers.
SJRCC also recently announced a transfer agreement with the Kaplan University online. This agreement will provide an easier articulation for both associate in arts and associate in science graduates.
