April 2009
SJRCC law enforcement cadets recognized
St. Johns River Community College criminal justice academy cadets were recently recognized during a graduation ceremony. Cadets representing St. Johns, Clay, Putnam and Duval counties received their certificates of completion for the law enforcement basic recruit program.
The St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office, St. Augustine Police Department and Clay County Sheriff’s Office opened the ceremony with the “presentation of the colors” followed by the cadets reciting the code of ethics. The guest speaker was Green Cove Springs Police Chief Robert A. Musco.
For the first time in the academy’s history, there was a three-way tie for the “Most Proficient in Firearms” award. The awards were given to Justin W. Sisk, Weston L. Huddleston and Anthony Teska. Special recognition went to Gerald Siers, Jr. for “Highest Academic Achiever” and to Sisk for the “Medallion Award.”
Law enforcement basic recruit graduates from St. Johns County: Jessica Adcock, Jami Caines, Robert Clary, Scott Doemel, Edward Faircloth, Jeffrey Haynes, Adam Hertz, Weston Huddleston, Ashley Maynard, Michael Pate, Christopher Perry, David Ramos, Matthew Richmond, Gerald Siers, Justin Sisk, Dusty Woodward and Anthony Yeomans.
Law enforcement basic recruit graduates from Duval County: Jeffrey Anderson, Sargent Anderson, Wesley Cross, William Gillette, Bradford Gray, Thomas Johnson, Fawn Kelley, Myrle Perry and Anthony Teska.
Graduates from additional counties include Walter Davis from Clay County and George Hammock
from Putnam County.
The ceremony was held at the Thrasher-Horne Center for the Arts. The THCA is owned and operated by SJRCC and is located on the Orange Park Campus.
The criminal justice certificate programs provide job-related training to prepare cadets for entry-level employment in their career field. Cadets who complete the certificate program will be eligible to take the state certification exam. The certificates also provide credit hours to be transferred into SJRCC’s associate in science degree in criminal justice officer administration. The program is located on the St. Augustine Campus.
Daytime classes for law enforcement basic recruit will begin in August, and evening classes will begin in October. Classes for corrections basic recruit will begin in September. For more information, contact the criminal justice department at (904) 808-7490 or visit the Web site at sjrcc.edu.
