SJRCC Press Release
November 2009
A Cabaret Showcase at Florida School of the Arts
Join Florida School of the Arts musical theater students for an intimate musical experience as they present “A Cabaret Showcase.” With the main stage transformed into a New York-style cabaret nightclub, audience members will be seated onstage as pop, jazz and musical theater favorites including “Dance: Ten; Looks: Three,” “Anything You Can Do,” and “Baby It’s Cold Outside” are performed by first and second-year students. Pianist Samuel Clein of St. Augustine will accompany the performers.
Seating is limited and reservations are required for this one-time performance at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, November 10 on the St. Johns River Community College Palatka campus. The event is free and open to the public; however, songs may contain adult themes. Reservations can be made by calling (386) 312-4300.
Director and musical theater instructor Stephanie Walter said that the performance is a collaborative effort by the entire musical theater faculty, with numbers that the students have worked on inside and outside of the classroom. “The show contains songs for everyone’s entertainment,” said Walter, adding that the students will have an opportunity to work with material that they would not normally get to perform on stage.
Second year students will be performing solos, while first year students will perform in duets and group numbers.
Members of the ensemble are: Gregg Baker, Mandi Connor, Michelle Csapek, Sarah Fowler, Jessica Giacchetto, Paul Hambidge, Brandy Hooper, Tyler Humphrey, Jamie Jones, Raquel Lopez, Osmary Nieves, Tara Reid, Alex Rodriguez, Jeffery Sadler, Ashley Schoendorf, Kasey Sollenberger, Marissa Toogood and Logan Wolfe. The assistant director/stage manager is Mandi Connor; vocal coaches are Florida School of the Arts music and voice instructors Michael Clark and Theresa Steele.
