PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATE ATTRIBUTES

Desired Characteristics
The Board of Trustees of St. Johns River Community College is in search of a dynamic, ethical leader who:


General
Exhibits excellent oral and written communication skills and can
articulate the mission of the College effectively to the organization and to
the communities served.

Can promote organizational commitment using an open,
collaborative leadership style.

Will be visible and accessible to the College and community.

Has a clear understanding of, and experience with, Florida's education
funding system.


College
Has a clear understanding of the community college learning-centered process.

Understands the dynamics of a multi-campus institution.

Functions effectively and promotes a continuing positive relationship with an appointed board of trustees.

Supports professional development for all employees.

Knows the importance of technology in the classroom and throughout the College.

Demonstrates successful experience in issues of diversity and the ability to lead a college that values diversity.

Shows a thorough knowledge of community college finance and budgeting.


Community
Builds productive relationships with business and industry, educational institutions, civic and cultural organizations, and other community agencies.

Respects and understands the value of existing positive relationships with area universities.

Leads and supports the efforts of the community in economic development.

Proactively engages the political process of the service region and state.


Required Qualifications
An earned doctorate from a university which is accredited by one of the six regional accrediting agencies.

At least five years of leadership experience in education, including higher education.

Familiarity with Florida's higher education and the relationship between public higher education and the Florida legislature.

Successful candidate must live in the District (Clay, Putnam or St. Johns county).
