SECURING BOOKS:
The Bookstore is located in the Student Center on each campus.
Classroom Preparation
Attend, prepare for and participate in every class. Arrive on time, familiarize yourself with your instructor's name, teaching style and expectations.
Note Taking
Recognize important information, develop personal shortcuts or abbreviations, be an active listener and review notes following class. If you have to miss a lecture, be responsible and get notes that you can understand from another student.
Textbook Reading
Get assistance by taking a reading course (REA 1105) on how to read a textbook. Come to class prepared with your required reading completed.
Study Efficiently
and Effectively
Find a good place and understand your learning style. Prepare for tests in advance, take advantage of technology and plan in advance for written assignments and papers.
Testing
Understand and improve test strategies for different kinds of tests (multiple choice, essay, true/false, open book, mathematics.) Start each test calmly and positively. Return to questions that are troublesome. Always check your answers. Review all tests once returned.
Organization
Use your student handbook. Keep all classroom paperwork. Use organized study habits.
Time Management
A full-time student (12 hours) will need anywhere from 24 to 36 hours of study time per week. Most learning in college courses takes place outside the classroom.
Consider employment requirements,
social and civic activities, family obligations and your health before deciding how many classes to take your first semester.
