DEAN OF NURSING
St. Johns River Community College invites applications and nominations for the position of Dean of Nursing. The Nursing department offers programs on the Palatka and Orange Park campuses with additional clinical support and instruction provided in St. Johns County. The Nursing program is part of the academic and administrative structure of St. Johns River Community College and is administered by a Dean under the general supervision of the Vice President for Workforce Development, the President and the St. Johns River Community College District Board of Trustees.
The Dean sets the standard of intellectual engagement and accomplishment for the College and provides strategic vision and operational leadership to all aspects of the academic and scholarly program, creating an environment and community that supports the CollegeŐs faculty and its students. The Dean also provides the leadership to assure that the College continues to serve its students with academic programs of the highest quality and effectiveness.
Minimum Qualifications for position include:
- MasterŐs Degree in Nursing, Doctorate in Nursing or related discipline preferred
- Licensure or eligible for licensure in the State of Florida as a Registered Nurse
- A minimum of three years (five years preferred) of administrative experience with increasing
responsibility at the college/university level
- Experience teaching at the college/university level
- Strong commitment to the philosophy, role and mission of a comprehensive community college
- Experience with budget responsibilities.

- A record of innovative program development at the college/university level
- A strong record of leadership and increasing administrative experience and responsibility
- Proven fiscal and managerial skills, with a leadership style that is open, consultative, and collaborative
- Ability to foster partnerships at the local, state and national level
- Ability to communicate effectively, listen carefully, and build consensus through good will and camaraderie
- Ability to think strategically about program development, faculty development, enrollment management, and resource management
- Commitment to professional development including ability to recruit and mentor faculty at all levels
- Commitment to promoting diversity and fostering the academic success of all students
- A broad perspective on learning outcomes assessment and the role of accreditation for influencing continuous program improvement
- Experience with the certification and accreditation process for nursing programs
- An understanding and commitment to public higher education
- Familiarity with grant application processes.

- A concise letter in which the applicant briefly states how he/she demonstrates minimum requirements, the desired characteristics, and how the applicantŐs background and experience will serve as preparation to succeed as Dean.
