GETTING ACQUAINTED WITH YOUR COLLEGE LIBRARY
Now that you know the types of information sources
that are available, let's talk specifically about your college library
and how to access the resources it has.
St. Johns River Community College maintains a library
to serve the students on each of our three campuses; Palatka,
St. Augustine, and Orange Park.
The services and resources available at each location are provided to
help you as a student achieve your goal of academic excellence. Each campus
has knowledgeable, friendly, professional librarians and service staff
ready to assist you.
reference and inter-library loan
services
SJRCC libraries offer reference services to all students during normal
operating hours, Monday - Friday. We are available to:
- Answer questions and provide information
- Help define search terms and locate the
appropriate resources
- Provide one-on-one instruction on all available
online and print resources
- Provide instructional handouts on accessing
the library's resources from home
- Assist in locating materials that may be
available from other libraries and requesting that item via inter-library
loan
circulation and reserves services
The circulation desk, located adjacent near the entrance of the library,
is the focal point of all circulation activities. Staff is available to:
- Provide library cards (student IDs) and
general information
- Check out and receive back all circulating
library materials, including interlibrary loan materials received
from other libraries
- Place hold requests on any library materials
currently checked out
- Provide access to reserve materials. Items
"on reserve" are materials that an instructor wants his/her students
to have access to, such as practice tests, solutions manuals, books,
and videos. The instructor decides if a reserve item can leave the
library and, if so, how long it can be checked out.
You may apply for a library card online by clicking
here. Library hours and policies are available here.
materials and other services
Our three campus libraries maintain a wide variety of materials for use
by students, faculty and staff. Some materials are called "circulating"
materials. That means you can check the item out. Other items are designated
as "reference". Reference items may be used in the library, but cannot
be checked out.
Materials available at your campus library include:
- Books, videos, compact disks and audio books
- Current magazines and journals
- Dictionaries, Atlases and other reference
materials
- A variety of test preparation materials
- Online databases and CD-ROM products
In addition to circulating and reference materials,
all SJRCC libraries offer students:
- Study areas
- TV/VCR equipment for viewing in-library use
only videos
- Copy machines
- Access to the Internet
- Open computer lab facilities
