Extra Credit Options (due by 12/6)

Each assignment is worth up to 2 points toward Final Average with a maximum total of 3 points.

Option I: Read a Book

  • Read a book set in, written in, or about any aspect of the time period covered during the semester.
  • Compare the work to the textbook information about its time period and briefly discuss of your personal thoughts about it.
  • Type your report and submit in class by the week before the semester’s end.

Option II: Visit a Museum or Gallery

    • Choose an appropriate Museum
    • Visit the Museum and View the Collection
    • List and describe 10 examples from the collection of paintings, sculptures, glass, china, pottery, and so forth from the particular period or periods studied in class.
    • Discuss both positive and negative aspects of the visit.
    • Evaluate the benefit of the visit in terms of viewing primary materials on site, and comment on the arranged displays of artifacts.
    • Submit the typed assignment in list form.
  • Local Museums of Interest (although students are not limited to the immediate locale)
    • Jacksonville: Cummer Museum (1 of the 30 finest small galleries in the US)
      • Permanent Collection
      • Revolving Collection
    • Museum of Southern History
    • St. Augustine: Lightner Museum

Option III: Volunteer or Help a Charity

  • Provide documentation of volunteer work or charitable donations to demonstrate involvement in your community either on or off campus.
  • Have your pet spayed or neutered works as community service. A copy of the vet receipt will serve as documentation. (Attach a cute photo of your pet if you can so I can brag on him or her.)

Option IV: Attend or Participate in a Performance

  • Attending or participate in a live performance.
  • Include your ticket stub (when applicable), a brief description of the performance (3-4 sentences), and what you found most impressive about the performance, whether it was the quality of the performers or the theater itself.
  • Turn in your typed description by the week before the semester ends.
