Potential Dual Enrollment Students

Thank you for your interest in becoming a Dual Enrollment student at SJRCC!
The following are the answers to many questions commonly asked:

Why should I Dual Enroll?
    1. Dual Enrollment saves money. Tuition and lab fees are free for all Dual Enrollment students. Textbooks are free for all public school and St. Joseph's Academy students.

    2. Dual Enrollment saves time. Students can shorten the time necessary to obtain a college degree since classes count both for high school credit as well as college credit. As a result, students can reduce their course load per term when they attend college full time.

    3. Dual Enrollment eases the transition from high school to college. Students can "test the waters" of college learning, helping improve the transition from high school to college.

Am I eligible for Dual Enrollment?
High school juniors and seniors with a 3.0 unweighted grade point average, acceptable test scores (ACT, SAT or CPT) and a recommendation from their high school principal and guidance counselor are qualified for SJRCC Dual Enrollment program.

Where are the Dual Enrollment classes located?
Classes are offered on SJRCC's Orange Park campus, Palatka campus, St. Augustine campus and Ponte Vedra center. Additionally, some classes are available online, and some are even held at the high schools.

Will Dual Enrollment Credits transfer?
Yes. Dual Enrollment credits will transfer, especially to Florida state universities, due to the Florida Common Course Numbering System and the statewide articulation agreement. For out of state and private schools, you will need to check with the individual schools.

Will Dual Enrollment grades be on my transcript?
Grades you earn in Dual Enrollment courses will be on and remain on your college transcript.

How hard are Dual Enrollment classes?
Dual Enrollment courses are college courses so you will be expected to perform on a college level.

What is Early Admission?
Early Admission is a type of dual enrollment where a senior enrolls full-time (12 credit hours) at SJRCC.

What Types of Dual Enrollment courses can I take?
Students can take Dual Enrollment courses that will lead toward the A.A. degree or toward a technical degree or technical certificate program. Click on the links for information about courses leading toward the A.A. degree or technical degree or technical certificate.

How can I make the most out of Dual Enrollment?
To get the most out of Dual Enrollment you need to have a plan. Try to determine the different majors you are interested in as well as research the requirements of the colleges and schools you plan to attend. Also, look at the requirements (prerequisites and GPA requirements) for your major.

How do I enroll in the SJRCC Dual Enrollment Program?
See your high school guidance counselor for a Dual Enrollment application (blue form). Complete the application and take the necessary test (ACT, SAT, or CPT), turn the application and test scores into your counselor, and then set up an appointment with your high school guidance counselor for advice about what classes to take.
