ABOUT THE PROGRAM
The Corrections Officer program awards a vocational certificate upon completion and is available on the St. Augustine facility only.
This program provides job-related training to prepare candidates for entry-level employment as Corrections Officers. The curriculum is prescribed by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement, Criminal Justice Standards and Training Commission in accordance with Florida Statutes.
Upon completion of the program, candidates will be eligible to take the state exam for corrections officer.
HOW TO APPLY:
Admission will be based on the completion of all entry requirements. All candidates must meet all entry requirements. There are special requirements in addition to the College's admission procedures and policies. At least three months prior to a Law Enforcement Basic Recruit Program, students should begin the application process. This process consists of three phases that must be completed in this order:
1. Application to the program; 2. Interview with the program director; and 3. Application to the College.
Program Admission Qualifications:
- At least 19 years of age
- U.S. citizen
- High school graduate or equivalent
- Able to pass medical examination
- Does not have a record of any felony convictions nor a record of misdemeanor convictions for the specific crimes of perjury and/or domestic violence
- Is not under the provisions of a domestic violence injunction
- Have a valid Florida driver's license
- Able to take and pass Florida Basic Abilities Test (BAT)
- Able to take and pass Physical Abilities Test (PAT)
The BAT test must be scheduled with the SJRCC Testing Coordinator on the Palatka Campus (386) 312-4228.
Must pay in advance (at any campus business office) and have a receipt to reserve a seat.

In addition to the special admission standards, there are special program requirements including attendance, physical exercises, and demonstrations of proficiency. The program is challenging and physically and mentally demanding.

WHAT IS A VOCATIONAL CERTIFICATE?
St. Johns River Community College offers several Post-secondary Training Programs (PSAVs) that prepare students for entry into a given career or vocation. Each of these programs prepares students for a specific occupation or a cluster of related occupations.
Vocational Certificates are based on contact hours.
A Vocational Certificate is awarded upon completion of the 532 contact hours in the Corrections Officer program.
Students are encouraged to take this program as a part of the Associate in Science Degree in Criminal Justice Officer Administration.
