OCCUPATIONAL EXPLORATION

Learning about jobs and professions that interest you is an important part of career decision making. It is important to integrate the information you have learned about your needs, desires, values, interest and skills with occupations and the world of work around you.

There are a variety of resources available both written and electronic. The following are some of those resources. Occupational resources and links are also identified in the Self Assessment section of our Career Resources page.

The Occupational Outlook Handbook is a collection of descriptions of hundreds of jobs and professions compiled annually by the United States Government. It includes job descriptions, employment outlook information, training requirements, and salary data.

JOBPROFILES.ORG covers the personal side of work. Experienced workers share what they like about their work, what they dislike about their work, what advice they have for those just entering the field and more on the future of the profession

O*NET ONLINE provides information about various occupations and wages and employment data by state. Find an occupation, click on summary, then Wages and Employment. Select your state and get informed.

SJRCC Campus Libraries have up to date resources on occupational information and career guides. You can access this material by entering the keyword "occupations" or
"careers" at the SJRCC Library search Web site.
