ADULT EDUCATION/GED EXAM
SJRCC Offers Customized, Year-Round GED Prep Classes
Have you dreamed of finally receiving your high school diploma? Getting a high school diploma can help you get a better job, increase your income, and make you feel better about yourself. It can open the doors to exciting careers in healthcare, construction, education, business, computer technology, and the military.
SJRCC GED-Preparation classes are free. You can begin anytime.
Classes are offered year-round on the Palatka campus. The cost of the GED exam is $50. Cash or credit/debit card only.
Classes are offered on the Palatka Campus during the evenings.
The program consists of:
- open entry enrollment;
- self-paced and computer-assisted instruction;
- free use of books and handouts; and
- dedicated, caring, and qualified instructors at all levels.
Registration fees vary, based on entry level scores and courses desired.
Some classes, including GED preparation, are fee exempt.

Classes and other individual learning opportunities are offered Monday - Thursday:
Palatka Campus (T104) 6:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m.

- Registration: June 30 - July 3, 2008 -- Test: July 18 & 19, 2008
(evening/weekend test)
- Registration: July 28 - August 1, 2008 -- Test: August 14 & 15, 2008
- Registration: August 25 - 29, 2008 -- Test: September 11 & 12, 2008
- Registration: September 22 - 26, 2008 -- Test: October 9 & 10, 2008
- Registration: October 20 - 24, 2008 -- Test: November 6 & 7, 2008
- Registration: November 17 - 21, 2008 -- Test: December 11 & 12, 2008

GED REGISTRATION:
To register for the GED exam, you must bring:
- Social Security Card
- FL Driver License or FL Picture ID (from the FL Driver License Bureau)
- Social Security card and ID names should match precisely (first, middle and last names)
- $50.00 cash for entire exam ($10.00 apiece for each of the subtests, except math which is $15.00)
- If you are under 18 years of age, you must have been enrolled in an adult education program long enough to bring a recommendation as to GED readiness from an adult education instructor, along with your official GED Practice Test Scores.
When registering for the GED exam on the Palatka campus, please park in the visitor parking area located on the west side of the Technical Building.
In addition, applicants under the age of 18 must bring a recommendation of GED Readiness from an Adult Ed instructor and official predictor test scores.
GENERAL EDUCATIONAL DEVELOPMENT (GED) EXAMINATION
The GED Examination is given on a regular basis throughout the year. It is administered to Putnam county residents who are:
- at least 18 years old OR
- 16 or 17 years old, and enrolled in GED preparatory courses, or granted a "hardship waiver" due to extraordinary circumstances.

OFFICE LOCATION
The SJRCC Adult Education Office is located in the Technical Building (T-107) on the SJRCC campus, at the corner of St. Johns Avenue and College Road. The office is open for GED applications from
8:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. (Monday through Friday) on the advertised registration dates.
Graduates who have received the State of Florida High School Diploma, after having passed the GED exam, participate in the annual graduation ceremony in June. Friends and family are invited to attend.
The Adult Education Program provides a supportive environment for students who wish to improve their educational skills in order to enter a college or vocational program. The flexibility of the class schedule proves to be convenient for adults who work or who have other fixed commitments outside of the college.
ENROLLEES
The Adult Education Program is open to adults, with or without a high school diploma, to high school students needing high school credit courses or to adults, with a high school diploma who wish to improve their basic English, reading and/or mathematics skills.
When registering for the GED exam, please park in the visitor parking area located on the west side of the Technical Building on the Palatka campus.
CURRICULUM
The adult education curricula incorporates courses of study from the elementary level through college preparation. English, mathematics, pre-algebra, and reading comprise the core curricula, with many other high-interest level courses also available to the student. Competency-based curricula, as well as user-friendly, teacher-assisted computer courses enhance the learning process.
